The Gateway Center: A hot spot of catalytic collaborations for the traditionally “othered”

This is the idea that has motivated us from the start and we’re only just beginning. Since gaining ownership of our building, we have provided low-cost leases to other like-minded nonprofits who are serving similar populations, and we have big plans for the future.

Current Gateway Center Partners

  • Serving free meals to the community 6 days a week.

  • Providing peer recovery support services to all in need.

    MHA
  • Offering instructional programs in career education.

And we’re expanding our collaborations soon.

The Gateway Lofts is a project that has been in the works for almost a decade. We’ve been dreaming for quite some time (and rolling up our sleeves to make it happen) of turning our unused square footage (approximately 100,000 sq ft) into high-quality, permanent supportive housing for our community.

STEL (Southern Tier Environments for Living) has been the perfect partner for this project. Their development, housing, and case-working expertise has been a blessing as we’ve dreamed up together what could be in our building.

The Gateway Lofts is a multi-family affordable housing complex unlike others, that will provide future residents with on-site services and support by community service organizations and nonprofits. The 110-unit development will include a mix of one, two, and three bedroom apartments. Our close proximity to wrap around services like healthcare, schools, youth programs, child-care, and government agencies, will help residents overcome poverty, homelessness, mental health and substance abuse issues. The project will incorporate energy efficiency and solar panels on the roof.

Once complete, the Gateway Lofts will revitalize the neighborhood around Jamestown’s medical corridor, by redeveloping a riverfront property and adding to the Chadakoin Riverwalk. The project is a collaboration between our organization, Southern Tier Environments for Living (STEL) and the YWCA of Jamestown.

The Gateway Lofts has received all necessary permits and approvals, and is expected to break ground in early 2023.
